Learning to play the guitar is an incredibly rewarding and fun skill to develop. I've always loved how a beginner can learn a mere 3 chords and suddenly be capable of playing hundreds of songs, while an advanced student can still be constantly discovering more ways around the instrument. There isn't another instrument I know of that can be so rewarding early on, yet remain a life long challenge to perfect.
Learning guitar, however, isn't just a matter of learning to put your fingers in the right places, nor understanding what all those symbols in written music mean. It is a process of learning to listen and better understand all of the music we hear, learning to practice and perfect a skill, and being exposed to new styles of music.
My goal as a music teacher is to engage students of all abilities and to teach them to play confidently by teaching them the necessary tools. I like to stress that music should be fun, though it also takes practice and dedication.
Because of the range of ages, styles and interests that students come in with, I offer a free 1/2 hour consultation with all of my students where we can get to know each other and design a program that best suits their needs and interests. I try to structure my lessons so that students learn the fundamentals of guitar and music while working at songs and styles that move them.
